excuse me?

Wife got a weird call concerning one of her credit card charges last month. The caller wanted her to verify personal information and some recent usage of the card, and she refused, because they called US. She ended up calling the card company directly, and it was legit, but after all we hear about credit card fraud, are these people really expecting us to confirm personal information over the phone when we’re called out of the blue? Do the people that work for the credit cards think we’re clueless?

Wife worked for a credit card company a long time ago, and she was a smart cookie for not giving up the scoop on our credit cards and the recent charges to Joe Schmoe on the phone.

Good for her! I know a lot of folks who would have trusted the call, and we all know most of the time a call like that is a scam. She deserves some roses, don’t you think? :)

I probably wouldn’t have thought twice about giving out the number, so I learned something new, I’ll have to watch out for that.

My bank did the same thing about some charges on my Debit card, strange that they called during a weekend but I’m pretty sure it was legit because I had ordered a few things, then cancelled them and ordered the same exact items from another store which I suppose could have looked suspicious. I think there should be a system set up so people can make sure that a call is REALLY from who they say they are…would make life a lot easier!

I can’t believe that they would have called her and asked her that! I am just amazed! You are very lucky to have such a smart wife! She was very smart to handle it the way she did.

You would be shocked how easily people would give out their social security numbers and other sensitive information. I did telemarketing in high school and if I was not an honest person I could have obtained a lot of secure information.

People often forget their common sense when it comes to money matters. Good for her for not falling for the scam!

My bank recently pulled this one with my debit card. I refuse to give any information over the phone unless it’s absolutely necessary. I drove up to the bank and took care of it on the spot. You can never be too careful these days.

I’m glad they call right away tho. Better than letting a problem go unnoticed.

I’ve tagged your blog under the DoFollow meme
