all time best sports movies
I started off watching some power skating videos on YouTube and started clicking links from there. Next thing I know I’m watching the Hanson Brothers of the Charlestown Chiefs. Absolutely awesome! The Wife has never been exposed to the greatness that is the Hanson Brothers and I think we might make watching Slapshot a kick off the hockey season tradition.
It got me to thinking, my ranking of all time best sports movies.
- 1) Slapshot, Are you friggin’ kiddin me? Don’t even argue it!
- 2) Caddyshack. Rodney Dangerfield had the best golf bag ever.
- 3) Ragin’ Bull. DeNiro.
- 4) Color of Money. Fast Eddie’s shades, Vince’s hair, and the Scorcese’s tracking shots…

Thursday night is my new hockey night. It’s been three weeks since we’ve been on the ice for drills and scrimmage, and man did I miss it. Luckily, I’ve been able to get some skates in on open sessions, keeps the legs and edges fresh, but my back, neck and shoulders are feeling it. Thank god for Advil and beer.
how is your memory?
It’s been six years, but I still remember exactly where I was and what I was doing the morning of September 11, 2001, when our country was attacked by people who want to see the death of Americans. Hopefully, we never forget that attack on our national sovereignty and the loss of innocent American life. I often wonder if September 11, 2001 will be the equivalent of perhaps the most famous date in American history, December 7, 1941. Will it be our “day that will live in infamy”?
Never forget that an enemy brought this to us.

Wednesday morning I drove to Brandon for a morning skate. While I was there, there was a what I thought was a pickup game going on the other ice. I thought, “Wow, those guys are really good, and pretty big, for even ‘A’ leaguers.”
After they finished, a couple of guys kept skating. One of them took off their helmets and it was Vincent Lecavalier! The Lightning use the ice in Brandon for their training camps, and a lot of the guys are already in town skating. Vinny, Brad, Marty and Dan were on the ice by themselves. Pretty cool.

Last Saturday morning I had my first Fantasy Football Draft of the week. I’m looking forward to the upcoming season and reclaiming what is rightfully mine. The league championship and the free beer and bragging rights that come with it. I had to draft in no mans land, number 7 in a twelve team draft, but I still am happy with my picks. I can’t wait for the play to begin!

Sunday night I was supposed to hook up the guys, as one of our buddies is returning to his home in Japan where he is a professor. We were supposed to make a nudie bar run, but it looks like everyone has a case of drag ass and it will be canceled. Too bad. He’ll be back in town in a year…

Hockey Dad
Wife and I are trying to decide if a fall hockey league for my son will fit into our schedules. I think the little guy is on the cusp of “getting it”. Competition, physical, aggression. I’m thinking about helping coach, mainly with the practices and running drills. There does not seem to be any shortage of Dad’s that ” know all about how to play hockey” and help on the bench on game days. There just seems to be a shortage of Dad’s that can actually lace ‘em up and help the coach demonstrate drills and such….

Bum-Bum-Bum- Let’s Go Blue! That’s right. The good citizens in Columbus, Ohio were surely playing the Michigan fight song Saturday night. In Jest. As the number five ranked Michigan Wolverines got beat by I-AA Appalachian State University in their season opener. It marked the first time an A.P. ranked team got beat by an I-AA school. Boone, N.C, is sure to be rocking!
