your check is your receipt

It annoys me when I write a check somewhere, and it’s processed instantly as an electronic payment, and the check is given back to me as my receipt. It’s a waste of a check. If I knew in advance it was going to be done that way, I would have rather just paid cash instead. It’s all part of this accounts receivable conversion banks are doing so you can’t float a check anymore. I get that part of it, I just don’t like taking the time to write a check out and then it’s handed back to me as a receipt.

Thursday I started my day off the usual way. Dropping the kids off at school. Going to my favorite greasy spoon for breakfast. Then I got the phone call… the I.R.S.! WTF! Hand me the lube please! It was regarding a VERY SMALL corporation my wife and I formed several years ago and have since sold. Can’t wait to see how this goes..

excuse me?

Wife got a weird call concerning one of her credit card charges last month. The caller wanted her to verify personal information and some recent usage of the card, and she refused, because they called US. She ended up calling the card company directly, and it was legit, but after all we hear about credit card fraud, are these people really expecting us to confirm personal information over the phone when we’re called out of the blue? Do the people that work for the credit cards think we’re clueless?

Wife worked for a credit card company a long time ago, and she was a smart cookie for not giving up the scoop on our credit cards and the recent charges to Joe Schmoe on the phone.

On St. Patty’s Day I lost my cell phone. I think I left it in the cab we took home, but I’m not sure. I’ve called the cab company three days in a row and still have not got a call back. That’s a little irritating.

When I was out Saturday night celebrating my Irish heritage, I lost my cell phone. I think I left it in our cab we took back to our hotel room. So far, the cab company has not found it. Looks like I’ll be buying another phone.

Arrggh. I’m sick and the only time I get grumpy is when I’m sick. Or drank to much whiskey. I spent 13 hours at work today feeling like monkey crap, and 12 hours yesterday feeling the same way. Tomorrow is a 14 hour day, but at least I don’t have to be there at 4am. Sometimes I feel like I’m too old for that crap.

Have you ever had trouble with school teachers or administrators and getting straight answers from them. I had to talk to my son’s teacher and I just felt like I was talking in circles trying to get answers. Also, it’s clear teachers, or at least this teacher, are not used to being held accountable. Too bad. In my line of work, I am used to holding people accountable as well as being held accountable for my performance. I have no problem applying that principle to the education system. Problem with the education system is, the teachers and administrators like to have standards for students, however, they resent standards being applied to them. Too damn bad!

Last week when I was at the Tampa Bay Lightning game, I made a blunder the Wife got a chuckle out of. Before the game started, I was standing in line at the Outback Steakhouse booth waiting for some dinner. As I was fishing around in my pocket, I felt a bunch of coins. You guessed it, they were for the parking meter where I park in downtown Tampa. I forgot to feed the meter. Of course, when I got back to my car after the game, there was a ticket waiting for me. $25! At least the Bolts won.

If you go read the story you will see the obvious sin being committed here. It is a sin of vanity and ego, on the part of the prosecutor Barker and the DA McDade. These guys obviously failed 5th grade math when you were taught about the lowest common denominator in division. It works like this, everyone involved in the case thinks the penalty is unjust. The foreman of the jury, the judge, the police, the warden, the attorneys. Now, by Georgia law, Barker or McDade could have the sentence suspended or halted tomorrow and this guy could be free and pursuing the Ivy League scholarships that were being dealt his way. But, to do that, would tacitly admit to a mistake or miscarriage of justice, which neither of these guys wants to take ownership of. Now you can see why vanity and ego are a sin. These guys could take a lesson in personal resposibility from Genarlow Wilson.

Our legal system and government is built on the Judea-Christian system. Like it or not. Also, it is heavily influenced by the philosophers of Ancient Greece. That is why Barker and McDade should go back and read the two greatest books of Western civilization. The Holy Bible(specifically the New Testament) and The Republic. They should pay special attention to Plato’s discourse on Justice found around page 60 in the Republic.

Genarlow Wilson is currently incarcerated in Georgia for a crime he admits to. When he was 17 and a senior in high school, he received oral sex from a female who was 15. Since she was under 15, this broke the law. Now, here’s where it all gets whacked. At the time, in Georgia, if they had intercourse at those ages, it would have been a misdemeanor, but since it was oral sex, it is a felony! And oh by the way, it was consensual. The act took place during a drunken high school party (who hasn’t done that?), and video of the act was taken that clearly shows she instigated it–AFTER she blew some other guy. So, rather than accept a plea bargain that would have sent him to prison for a couple of years and then been labeled a pedophile, prohibiting him from living with his younger sister, he roled the dice and went to trial. Because of the video, it is clear he participated in what whe was accused of. The sentence - 10 years! For a blow job!! This guy is getting screwed.
