Do you know who the hell I am?

That’s a quote from Evel Knievel, American Icon, when asked why he tried to jump the Snake River. Knievel died on Friday, November 30, 2007. If you were a kid growing up in the late 70’s and early 80’s, like me, you probably remember seeing him on World Wide of Sports. You probably had the cool toys and lunch boxes (we couldn’t afford them), and the awe of seeing a daredevil. Plus the cane filled with bourbon.

God bless him.

Too often today, professional athletes are better known for their run-ins with the law and their transgressions against society. However, when they do good, it often goes unrecognized.

Today, Vincent Lecavalier won the MVP trophy, maybe not the one named Hart, but the one that matters, Most Valuable Person. Today, it was announced that Lecavalier made a 3 million dollar commitment to a All Children’s Hospital in St. Pete for a children’s pediatric cancer unit. Now that’s a natural hat trick!

Pray the Beatitudes.

But in the meantime quote Marsellus Wallace: “I’m going to call up some hard pipe hittin’ n*****, with some pliers and a blow torch, and we’re goin’ get medieval on your ass.”

Hopefully he makes it into the general prison population. Screw the scumbag.

hockey play of the night

I typically read the newspaper every morning, if it’s arrived before I leave the house for work. I don’t typically watch the news, just because I’m not usually home when the news is on, and when I am, I’ve got better things to do. I tend to get a lot of my news online instead. It’s free, it’s easy, and it’s quick. I don’t have to listen to 5 minutes of weather and consumer reports in order to find out what the score was in last night’s hockey game.

Now, thanks to The News Room, I can not only get the news for my own benefit, but I can share it and make some cash. Because this is an advertising supported product, I can embed relevant news onto my blog and get paid for sharing it. For instance, I was able to find this neat video of the play of the night (Rob Neidermeyer) from the Stanley Cup Finals to share here. It’s relevant, timely, and I make money!

You can also earn prizes for using the service. Putting that video up was easy too - you just find a category of news, pick a story, and share it. The layout is easy to change, and all of the code is provided to you.

I heard this funny story on the radio today. At first, it was hard to believe, but I was able to confirm it online at a VERY dependable news source, bangedup.com. Recently on a red eye Northwest Airlines flight, a male passenger moved to a vacant seat next to a female passenger who was asleep. Allegedly, he groped her and woke her. Upon waking, she felt a warm sticky fluid on her back! Classic! Unfortunately, we are flying on NWA this summer. Think I’ll make the Wife sit on the aisle!

big storms

The big news around here lately is the big thunderstorm and tornados that smashed through central Florida around a week and a half ago. Talk about an emergency situation! Twenty people were killed and tons of homes destroyed. The thunderstorm woke me around two in the morning with it’s howling wind. Floridians are used to severe weather and thunderstorms and many take precautions by keeping plywood, tapcon screws, water and survival kits on hand to help make it through the storms and their aftermaths. However, thunderstorm cells and tornados just kind of pop up and do not leave time to prepare. Hurricanes provide ample time to prepare yourself. I wish the best to all the people impacted by this storm.
