Wife’s tech site, which is called GeekySpeaky, has really taken off in the 6 or so months it’s been online. She’s not only got a blog there, but forums where people can talk about paid blogging (and face it, the phrases “get paid to blog” and “make money blogging” are synonymous with Wife’s name. She’s earned over $10,000 from PayPerPost and she’s not doing too shabby with the other paid blogging she does.

Anyway, her link directory over at GeekySpeaky has really taken off in the past few months. In fact, the directory, which was started only a few months ago, is now a PR 5 - not too shabby, eh? Good job, wife! You can submit your site for free or pay for a special upgraded listing if you choose. It just amazes me that something she decided to do on a whim turned out to be so successful.

tv time

Last year, wife and I finally bought a new TV. Every other TV we had prior to this had been obtained for free, so it was high time that we spent some cash and got something nice for ourselves. Since we were moving into our new house, and spending money on having surround sound speakers put into the ceiling, we wanted a nice TV too.

What we found is that choosing a new TV is hard work. We got quite the education from every sales clerk we encounter, as well as his or her opinion on what we should buy. You never know if they’re telling you the truth, or just looking for a commission. At any rate, we should have just checked out LCD TV Reviews for the real deal and honest truth on what to look for. In the end, we got a 42 inch Samsung DLP high def and we love it.

I am not a geek. I am not a tech guy. I am not into the internet. But I am married to someone who is. She’s been making money and doing things on the internet since 1999, from running her own website to blogging. She’s the reason I have this blog. At times, I like to know what she’s talking about, when she lapses into a language full of words like monetize, Adsense, and Google. That’s where this Ethical SEO company comes in handy with their Search Engine Marketing Glossary. It’s like a geek to English dictionary. By looking up things there, I can stay in step with my wife and carry on a conversation, rather than just nodding and saying “uh-huh”. Thanks!

I resisted getting a cell phone for a long time. My wife really wanted one. She was a stay at home mom, but she didn’t stay at home much, she was constantly running back and forth to take our kids to school (30 minutes each way) and running errands all over town. Finally, we agreed that she would get one. I still felt that I didn’t, because I was at work all the time anyway. Then she gave me one for my birthday, and I changed my mind completely once I started using it. Now, you won’t find me away from my cell phone for long. I use it daily!

I bought wife an iPod for Christmas. I wish I had known that I could save saved some money on it by buying it through the Apple store at Ebates. They take the sales commission they receive from the 800 stores listed on their site, and share a bit with you every time you purchase through Ebates. Your cash back can be as little as 1% or as much as 25%. That all adds up, and Ebates sends you a nice little check when you’ve earned some cash. CNN even called Ebates “A no-brainer”. Why pay full price when you can get cash back online at Ebates?

old school vs. new school

Do you get flyers mailed to you? Do you read them? Use the coupons? Patronize those businesses? I don’t. Usually, junk mail goes in the circular file, aka the trash can. I am much more likely to seek out information online, visit a website, print out coupons, etc. That’s why having top search engine placement is so important. When you’re searching on Google for a product, are you going to purchase it from someone on the first page of search results, or the 32nd page of search results? I really wish I could get businesses to stop mailing me stuff on PAPER and just get everything I need online, because in the case of old school marketing versus new school - the new school takes the cake.

Here’s a great deal for my visitors and blog readers from “across the pond” - free broadband service for a month and a free wireless router too! You can get details on this cheap broadband deal by visiting Eclipse Internet - in addition to their broadband services, Eclipse also offers dial up services where broadband is not yet available, and website hosting. If you’re still suffering on dial up with a modem - make the switch. You won’t believe the difference in surfing on broadband, and you’ll wonder why you waited so long to switch!

motorola z3 or k1

Wife and I are going to have to replace our cell phones. We made the mistake of buying them from a third party company, and they don’t work right with our Cingular service - we can’t send pictures or text messages, and what’s the point of having a camera phone if your wife can’t send naughty pictures to you at work? I don’t know that I will get another RAZR - I like the Motorola line, but I might want to try something new, like the Motorola KRZR K1 or the Motorola Z3. I really love how the Z3 slides open, but it’s still really thin and looks good. Since everyone and his brother has a RAZR, it’s time for me to switch things up and be the trendsetter that I am.

top phones

I’ve had 3 or 4 cells phones since I started using them. I’ve never paid for one of them - it’s just not important to me to have a $300 phone in my pocket, when the freebie model being handed out by the cell phone provider will work just as well. My wife on the other hand…

She’s the reason I carry a Motorola Razr, which was recently named given some the number one spot on the list here: Wirefly announces the Top 10 cell phones of 2006 Honestly, I’m not sure that the Motorola Razr lives up to the hype. It looks cool, but the square design isn’t user friendly. I’ve dropped that phone so many times since I got it, and on one of its last falls, I lost the battery cover. My other phone, which was the free Samsung from T-Mobile (also on the list) was a lot tougher.

Thanks Wirefly, for sponsoring this post and giving me the chance to share my thoughts on my phone.

sproose’d up searching

I’ve got a new sponsor, and they’ve got a cool concept. Wouldn’t it be neat to be able to rank sites when you search on certain keywords, based on what you think of the site and how they relate to your search terms? Visit the Sproose home page and you’ll see that you can do just that now. You can vote on a website and give it from 1 to 5 stars, and all of the scores and votes from users come together to give one overall ranking to that site. Hopefully there are safeguards in place so people can’t game the system.
